Art Camp 2012/2

 We have been really busy this week in my backyard.  We started with treehouses.  The backgrounds are a painting technique using bubble wrap.  Next we used oil pastels on brown construction paper for the trees.  We added a ladder with wooden craft sticks.  They kids designed their own tree houses and tucked them in the branches, lastly, we added green construction paper leaves with sharpie details.

 We have also made cardboard sculptures, by layering carboard strips of different lengths, and then adding acrylic paint designs to the top.  Love these, they were very fun to make too.  We passed the colors around the table adding more layers of color and design, saving black for last.

 More cardboard, masks.  I had some big cardboard boxes from Ikea, that just needed to be artcycled.  we added designs to three colored craft sticks with sharpies, and designed the mask face with oil pastels.  We added sticks to the top for hair.

 This was done with finger painting, no paint brush.  The kids drew their self portrait first, then traced with black tempera and their finger.  The background layer was folded to get several rectangles and water colored.  When it dried, we added black sharpie designs. 

 This was an experiment and they are still drying so I don't know if they turned out.  We dipped the yarn in glue then added layers to the outside of the bottoms of water bottles.  They are suppose to be yarn vases, we will see if they turn out.

And the trusty toilet paper rolls.  Cut in strips and then glued together to make a radial flower shape.  The kids painted them today, we will make garlands with them tomorrow. 

Art Camp

Art Camp ended last week.  We really were creative and made a lot of artwork.  Here are some projects we displayed on the last day for our art show.

Art Samples

 Just a few examples of my students' past work.  Hope you are inspired.  I teach the artist Laurel Burch, and we create birds and cats done with oil pastels.  This bird is by a 3rd grader and the cat below is by a first grader.

 This is a landscape by a 7th grader.  It is tempera cake paints done in a loose impressionistic style.

Misc. Spring

 Got this idea from pinterest, gonna go to a baby shower on Saturday and wanted to make a cute card.  The clouds are scrapbooking paper and then I just fringed the grass, added the wood poles with brown paper.  I hole punched the tops and threaded the line through, then knotted it.  Added the baby clothes with patterened paper and embellishments, then added a pre-made text box.  So easy, and cute.  the clothes pins are mini ones that I got at Michaels.  They come in colored or plain wood. 

 Bulletin board in my artroom.  These are hearts that the kinders did for valentines day.  I gave different tables different colors, warm or cool.  I made sure the colors could blend together and not make brown, because sometimes the kids go over and over the paints. 

 Another bulletin board in my room,  hearts and concentric circles.  The hearts are tissue paper collages with oil pastel hearts and then collaged the word love with magazine letters cut out.

Picasso's Hand with bouquets done by my kinders.  Artists trace their hand on skin colored paper, and cut out.  Collage the stems and glue on hands, and then the flowers are tissue paper squares wrapped around the end of the pencil and then glued. 

Dirt Cake

Ok, so my little boy is turning 13 today, and I know that is a little old for the themed cake, but I just love being creative in the cake department, so I wanted to make a dirt cake.  I have seen a few on pinterest and  so I got this tractor at the 99cents store, made a bundt cake and added a plastic bottle insert in the midde, covered it with chocolate frosting and oreo crumbs.  I even took a piece out so it looks like there is a hole being dug.  Happy Birthday Henry!

liquid watercolors

I started using the liquid water colors this year and really love them.  I tell the kids to try and not add any water to them, so they stay really vibrant.  I use to get frustrated with the tray watercolors because we always seemed to run out of blue and the yellow always got dirty.  The watercolors seem to be much more bright and last a lot longer.  I will never buy trays again.
