Paul Cezanne

Working on still lifes with my younger elementary class.  We practiced setting up a still life and drawing it, then studied Paul Cezanne and his portraits, landscapes and still lifes, then created a plate of apples with acrylic, water colors and crayons.

Claude Monet

I love teaching about the artist and the little quirky things that they do.  Claude Monet took his paints, paintbrushes, pallets and canvases onto his little boat and had a floating art studio in the middle of the water he could pull up to any water scene and be right there and paint a picture of it in his boat. Sometimes the water with splash up onto his canvases.

A trip to the Broad

If you haven't gone, make reservations now.  This display of modern and contemporary art is so inspiring.  I loved that you could stop in on the second floor and see the vault, where the art cache is housed.  And, the attendants were so knowledgeable about the collection.

Gearing up for some art history

I am looking forward to teaching some hands on art lessons with art history content, from ancient cave, Mycenaean, and Egyptian to Modern Contemporary.

Fourth of July Flag

Loving my flag I made last year.  I have had it up since school got out and it's getting a little tattered, but that's giving it a little more character.  Can't wait to celebrate Independance Day!  Happy 4th everyone!

God's Eyes

Do you remember making God's eyes the kids had no idea what these were or what they were called but I remember making them in Sunday school years and years ago. They had a blast weaving with different colored yarn and we used coffee stirrer sticks.  This is good find motor skill practice to get the knots on the ends of the yarn.

Mermaid Making

We painted mermaids at Beth's 12 year birthday party.  It was so much fun each girl got really creative with the colors and the hair and they're all so unique I love them.

Cupcake Decorating

Here are the goodies we decorated our cupcakes with. I just put out trays of goodies and let the students help themselves.

Auction Art

Getting ready for the art auction at the end of the school year.  This is 4th grade, they each designed a cupcake.  Don't they look yummy.  This is one of my favs.

Be Sweet

Practicing my collage skills today. My neighbor gave me a bunch of scraps and I was so inspired. This might need to go up in my classroom to remind my younger students to be sweet and kind to each other.

God's Eyes

After school Programming this week was upper elementary and Jr. High.  I got out the coffee stirring sticks and the yarn, and they had a blast.  They mostly needed help tying yarn ends together and really enjoyed putting lots of different colors on their fiber craft.  Some of the kids ended up doing two or three of them in our hour-long session. I wanted to put them up in my classroom but they wanted to take them home and give them to somebody.

Forest Fundraiser

This was a fund raiser put on to send a group of teens to winter camp.  So we painted a forest scene in sunset.  This was the biggest group I have had so far, and it was a lot of fun, especially the teenaged boys.

Clay

Loving the opportunity to do some ceramics again, inspired by the new kiln.
Cherry blossoms have a lot of symbolism and history on everything from war propaganda to being a representation of better relations between countries.  All in all, they represent new beginnings and the fragility of life.  Nothing says Spring like a cherry blossom.

Flowers for Spring

Studying Georgia O'Keeffe, and making our flowers so big they come off the page!!!
